Pedjeshes


A priestess of Seshat would accompany the Pharaoh to the site of a proposed temple for this ritual. (Pedj--"to stretch," Shes--"a cord") Each would carry a gold mallet and a peg. The priestess would locate the first point of the temple foundation, and pound the peg into the earth with her mallet.

Then the pharoah would consult the constellations and, as above so below, locate the second peg. They would then stretch a cord between the pegs to mark the first side of the temple's foundation.
